News 08/15/2002 : CIRB Member to Lead Restaurant Real Estate Workshop at National Conference of Independent Restaurateurs  Gordon Matthews of Griffin Restaurant Group will be presenting a workshop at the Council of Independent Restaurateurs of America (CIRA) national convention in Chicago on September 28, 2002. The workshop will offer convention participants a comprehensive interactive seminar on restaurant site selection, and the dynamics of restaurant real estate. Mr. Matthews will address several topics including:
The true importance of the real estate decision for restaurateurs
Real estate terminology- Debunking commercial Realtor lingo.
Real estate math- practical application.
Case studies – some real examples of deals gone right
Lease Negotiation – Learning how landlords think

Some of the most common real estate mistakes seen by brokers.
Mr. Matthews is a restaurant industry veteran, having worked for Marriott Hotels, World Wrapps, The Kimpton Group, Southern Sun Hotels and several independent restaurateurs. He brokered restaurants and restaurant property in Seattle, Washington before joining Griffin Restaurant Group in 2001.
CIRA is a national association comprised of independent restaurateurs devoted to the highest standards of food and service. It was founded to represent the interests of independent operators, and to establish a proactive marketing program that would meet the challenge of the national dinner-house restaurant chains. It has over 200 members across the country and is growing rapidly. The annual conference is being held from September 27-29, 2002 at the Hotel Monaco in Chicago. Attendance is expected to be approximately 150 people.
